Achieving the most fundamental aspects of DnD (not every spell and race and whatnot) wouldn't even be THAT difficult. If I were to peg a % on it, I might go as high as 75-80% of DnD 5e could be recreated in D:OS2 if there were enough dedicated modders. There would probably have to be some kind of honor system for some things, and there are going to be SOME limitations, but I think an impressive amount of things could be automated and designed into the system itself. Random loot could be entirely eliminated in favor of preplaced everything. The armor system could be entirely scrapped, statuses completely reworked as you please. ![]() Certain perks like gaining extra attacks as a fighter would grant extra AP. Having characters roll for spell success might require an honor system, or the DM could mute/disarm the character before using a skill, I dunno. This would probably be the hardest thing to completely get exactly like DnD, what with movement being a different type of action as skills, but I think it would be possible to allow characters to only use one skill if they were muted/disarmed after using a skill, allowing them to move before or after their skill usage, but not using two skills. The AP system could be condensed all the way down to a 2 AP system and make all skills into 1 AP. Of course enemy stats and whatnot would have to be pretty much entirely rebalanced (as with any of the changes I'm listing), but it's theoretically possible.Īs I posted before, you could implement a spellslot system with source points, or perhaps some other system of tracking skill usage (given that different spell levels have entirely different kinds of slots.) Recreating all the skills and spells in DnD 5e would be a monumental effort, and require a ton of new effects and animations and stuff - or you could simply roleplay most spells and the DM could create objects and effects (the much more feasible option.) The DM would probably give characters skills rather than having them learn from skillbooks. I think even something like character health could be reset and completely determined by the DM with the proper systems in place. They could be renamed, made much rarer, and have their existing effects completely eliminated, used for roll values only basically. It depends on what you mean by "core system." Larian has already made it much easier to modify "core" things like attributes and abilities. The core system in DM Mode is always going to be the D:OS2 core systems. The amount of work that went into SCL modding was in full swing until they realized the limitations. I am hoping the flexibility will be there for the core elements to be changed.Īlso, if said flexibility is a possibility, I have no doubt (if the tools are easy to use) a modding community will take up the challenge. But, that is not the same thing has having a true replacement for a 5e tabletop game. Yeah, I saw the videos and close enough will happen for sure. And for that to work, core elements like attributes, racial and class modifiers, spells would need to be from D&D (if you really wanted to play D&D and see it represented on the screen).Īnyway, I can't seem to find that answer in terms of full conversion. What seems most interesting for someone who wants a D&D conversion is providing the visual representation of combat. ![]() I am an old-school DM who had high hopes for Sword Coast Legends, but, alas, that was a disaster. Those of you with modding experience, would the modding community be able to do a full conversion to incorporate, say, D&D's 5e SRD and, then, build custom modules based on old D&D content? I ask because this would allow my table-top group to use the digital tool. It looks like a fantastic game and gameworld. BTW, I haven't played because time is limited, not because I have any problem with the game. I have never played D:OS, but I am interested in purchasing D:OS2 if the modding is flexible enough to change core aspects of the game.
